Countryside retreat for couples and small families near Brecon.  Tucked away in the heart of the Welsh countryside, this charming, renovated barn offers a tranquil escape just 5 miles from the market town of Brecon. With its exposed beams, stone walls, and wood burner, it’s the perfect hideaway for couples or small families looking to slow down, reconnect, and explore nature at their own pace.

Step inside to find a welcoming open-plan space where you can cook, dine, and unwind together. The cosy lounge invites you to curl up with a book by the fire, while the kitchen has everything you need for relaxed, home-cooked meals. The ground-floor double bedroom provides a peaceful night's sleep, and a characterful loft area with twin beds is ideal for younger guests or extra space.

Outside, the enclosed garden is a lovely spot for breakfast in the sunshine or a glass of wine as the sun sets. From your doorstep, wander through meadows, follow quiet woodland trails, or stroll along the nearby canal. Brecon itself offers gentle walks, charming cafes, and a warm community feel, perfect for a laid-back day out.

Whether you're in search of romantic moments, peaceful scenery, or slow-paced family time, this rustic retreat offers a beautiful base for your countryside escape.

Brecon is located just 5 miles from the property and offers an array of cafes, restaurants, independent shops and a small cinema. Walk along the canal to the famous theatre, art gallery and restaurant spot - Theatr Brycheiniog. If you want to explore the canal from a different perspective, then you can take a boat ride or cycle along the many towpaths. The cathedral in Brecon boasts pretty grounds which lead to the Priory Groves - an attractive woodland area which borders the River Honddu. Guests staying at this property can take their getaway at their own pace: full and active or slow and relaxing.

One of the unique features of this property is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. The traditional beamed ceiling and exposed stonework ensure that this property has kept many of its original features and with a wood burner for the ultimate cosy cottage experience. The kitchen has everything required for a self-catering stay, whilst the dining area has plenty of space for a relaxed family meal together. On this floor, you will also find a double bedroom and bathroom. The other room is located at the top of a set of steep ladder-style stairs which lead to an open-plan loft space with three single beds arranged as a set of twin beds at one end and a single bed at the other end, separated by a curtain for privacy.

Outside, you will find a very pretty garden which is enclosed and boasts wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. This lovely outdoor space is the perfect place to enjoy a little al fresco dining; guests can find a set of garden furniture outside with an umbrella to offer shade in the sunshine. This property provides lots of outdoor space and there are wonderful meadows to explore which lead to a stream and pretty woodlands.

Absolutely fantasticweek at Byres Cottage. The kids said, within 5mins of arrival: "Can we come back here every year?" Idyllic location. Total peace. Lovely stream at bottom of the garden. Lovely hosts. Would heartily recommend to anyone.

A beautiful cottage in a very beautiful setting. The view at the rear is beautiful and there is a nice outside sitting available. It is possible to take beautiful walks directly from the cottage.

Lovely rural cottage. Fantastic location. Really lovely host family. A real paradise for kids who love an outdoor adventure and outdoor play.
