  • Roaring open fire for chilly evenings
  • Private terrace and BBQ for al fresco suppers
Property code: BN427

Set amongst the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park and within easy reach of the River Usk and the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal, this Victorian cottage is an idyllic base for exploring. Ideally placed in rural splendour yet close to the A40, you can venture near and far to take in your majestic surroundings at leisure. For those that enjoy outdoor activities there's the Llangorse Activity Centre with its climbing wall and also Cantref Adventure Farm for younger children, both with pony trekking centres. You can hire a kayak and paddle along the nearby Brecon and Monmouth Canal. Cast your line to catch salmon and brown trout on the Usk, or hop on your bike and scale the rolling hills and scenic trails from a new perspective. Talybont-on-Usk is 2 miles away, where you can visit the reservoir and sample locally-brewed beer at one of the welcoming pubs, or visit the village shop and cafe.

Escape the elements as you step inside the cosy lounge, kicking off your boots and settling down on the sofas with a glass of wine. An open fire warms the room throughout, and you’ll be kept entertained by the selection of DVDs, games and books. The bijou-style kitchen/diner has everything you need to whip up light snacks or more elaborate suppers, best enjoyed around the table. Next, the downstairs shower room and a delightful twin offer a quiet sanctuary after the day’s adventures. A handy utility room with washing machine offers additional food preparation space. Leading from here is the stairway up to the first floor, with two further bedrooms - choose from a snug twin or a comfortable double.

Take your meals outside for dinner with a view, relaxing on the patio with a few drinks. Fire up the BBQ and sizzle up something special whilst the children play on the lawn, or sip your morning coffee and savour the sound of birdsong. There’s ample parking for two cars, and a plethora of scenic walks leading from your doorstep. On the nights you don’t feel like cooking, the nearest pub is a short 1.5-mile drive away, and you can pick up a few essentials at a small shop and post office just 2 miles away in Talybont village.

Warm and comfortable cottage which is well equipped. Pleased with the location for exploring the Brecon Beacons and although it is close to a main road we could not hear any traffic noise. We all slept really well.

Had a great stay at this lovely cosy cottage for a week. Fabulous location for a getaway. Cottage was homely and comfortable. Lovely hill walking and great pubs and shops only a short drive along the A40. Fascinating UNESCO world heritage site on the door step at Blaenavon, thoroughly recommended.

Good location, comfortable inside, good facilities - utility room with outside access, washing machine & additional fridge very handy. We tried to use the open fire but the living room became smokey so the chimney may need some attention (owners informed). Outside areas were quite unkept, grass overgrown, weeds (not like photos online) which was quRead moreite disappointing on arrival. The A40 runs next to the property and the garden is not secure, dog owners note. I probably would not visit again. Hide

Lovely cottage in a location which is good to get to lots of places. The garden is not secure so not good for dogs to roam in as backs onto busy road so didnt use like I was expecting too which was a shame. The water pressure is very low in the property but apart from that all lovely.

Comfortable accommodation in a fantastic location just a shame about the road close to the perimeter which is fast and quite noisy. However, a good base for exploring the Brecon Beacons.

Lovely cottage, not great WiFi, if you have kids, grass really needed cutting, & patio needed sweeping. We could not let our dog in the garden off the lead, as the garden is not secure, & backs on to a 60mph road. We were unable to use Netflix for some reason, just got a black screen, & the DVD gave very poor picture/sound quality, due to scart leaRead mored connection. However very close (not safe walking distance due to road) to 2 very good pet friendly pubs, & a short drive to the Beacons. Hide

Great location, arrival and entry easy. Property as expected, cosy, fire was great. Enough space for a family of four. The separate utility space was useful for the dog to sleep, muddy boots and coats. Overall perfect for what was the childrens first visit to Wales and introduction to walking in the mountains.
