Peacefully tucked away, this charming 19th century cottage makes a perfect rural retreat that’s full of character. Located on the fringes of the Herefordshire village of Hoarwithy and just 1 mile from the banks of the River Wye and local village inn and shop. Visit the St Catherine Church, a popular filming location nearby (1 mile). A great base for walkers, explore the countryside from the cottage or tackle the Wye Valley Walk that can be joined within 1 mile. For cyclists, there’s a network of country lanes and national cycle routes nearby. Canoe hire is available within the village where you can access the quietest part of the river with trips available to Ross-on-Wye, or venture further to explore the Forest of Dean (19 miles). The area is also steeped in history; visit one of the many castles, Goodrich, White Castle, and Raglan, all within 20 miles, or enjoy a lazy afternoon in one of the vibrant local market towns that include Ross-on-Wye (7 miles) and the City of Hereford (8 miles).

Stepping inside, the cottage is traditional and offers access into the original lounge area, a cosy room with comfortable seating, a wood burner and a TV, along with views out onto the gardens. To the other side there’s a lovely dining room with a table and chairs, also enjoying garden views. An archway offers access to a light and spacious cottage-style kitchen, well-equipped with everything guests would need for preparing meals. Also from the kitchen, you can access a useful utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, along with a cloakroom with WC. Upstairs, guests have the choice of two bedrooms both enjoying a front aspect with garden views. Choose between a king and a twin room (with zip and link beds that can be made up as a super-king bed on request). Finally, there’s a charming bathroom with shower over bath.

Outside, the cottage is surrounded by mature gardens that are completely enclosed. Due to the nature of the environment the grounds are multilevel, a landscaped terrace offers a table and chairs with charcoal BBQ. The lawned area is great for children to explore and play.

Being someone who has mobility issue, a hand rail going up the steps would have been a help. Please note this is only a personal preference.

Excellent facilities in very modernized and comfortable cottage. Although some write ups mention intermittent internet, we had no issues at all. Mobile phone worked well in the garden. Although remote and very peaceful very well positioned for touring the region. Would highly recommend

We had a lovely week at the cottage. This isn't an area of Herefordshire we have explored before & we found it a great base for walking. The cottage was very clean, spacious for two of us and well equipped. Plenty of hot water & good pressure form the shower. The patio is a delight - a sun trap to sit out and have an evening drink. The lanes to andRead more from the cottage are narrow so driving patience is required. The pub is just over a mile away offering decent food - we would stay here again. Hide

We holiday in "cottages" regularly and at various times of the year, and whilst usually lovely places to stay, many aren't really cottages per se (barn conversions, etc). This was however a true cottage, and just what we were looking for. Comfortable and cosy sitting room, with the log burner adding to the atmosphere. Very practical dining room, goRead moreod sized bedrooms, well-appointed kitchen, and well maintained and spacious gardens all added up to a lovely place to stay. Will definitely return. Hide
