A deceptively spacious shepherd hut with wood burner, for couples seeking a rural bolthole in the heart of the Mid-Wales countryside with walks from the doorstep.

Situated in front of the owner’s traditional longhouse, this quirky 18-foot shepherd hut enjoys glorious views across the fields towards the Epynt Mountain and the valley below. There are wonderful walks straight from the door through woodland and fields, offering plentiful wildlife spotting opportunities. Situated in a remote location, the hut offers an escape from the stresses and strains of modern life. The village of Cilmery (2.5 miles) has a well-regarded traditional inn and there is a request-stop train station for the Heart of Wales Railway Line. Take time to see the stone monument to Prince Llewelyn, slain on the banks of the river. Shops and a choice of cafes and restaurants can be found at nearby Builth Wells (6 miles) where you can ramble along the banks of the River Wye. Explore the Elan Valley (8 miles) where you will find scenic walks and picturesque picnic spots. Further afield, the popular towns of Brecon (20 miles) and Hay-on-Wye are well worth a visit.

Set in the grounds of the owner’s property, this comfortable cedar-clad cosy holiday home offers well-designed accommodation on one level. Follow the pathway and take the three steps to the entrance door. Enter into the open-plan interior with wood-panelled walls and colourful soft furnishings. At one end is the comfortable king-size bed, dressed in a hand-crocheted bed cover with co-ordinating handmade cushions. There is a compact but well-equipped kitchen area with a two-ring hob, microwave/oven and fridge with freezer compartment. Dine at the pull-out table and chairs as you enjoy the views across the valley through the  double doors before curling up in one of the cosy chairs and chatting in front of the flickering flames of the wood burner. A shower room with WC completes the accommodation.

Outside, dine alfresco on your private balcony where you will find a bistro-style table and chairs for romantic sunset meals. The garden area is equipped with a BBQ and firepit, perfect for evenings spent stargazing under the clear skies. Bring your binoculars as the wider surrounding gardens have been designed to attract wildlife and you may spot the barn owls and woodpeckers which are visitors to the garden. There is ample parking available. Yoga classes and textile courses can be arranged with the owners upon request.

The hut was equipped with everything you could need and the use of the limited space available was incredible. The views from the decking were amazing and the birds on the bird feeders magic.

With its high standards throughout, I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to get away from it all. The hut has everything you need, its location is the perfect base to explore mid Wales or just kick back, relax and enjoy the tranquility with just the sounds of nature for company.

Such a wonderful place to stay. Rose and Dean made us feel so welcome. The Shepherd Hut was beautiful, warm, and cosy despite the sub-zero temperatures outside! Incredible views, great amenities, just wished we had booked to stay longer. We hope to return!

A lovely remote and peaceful location where you can enjoy listening and watching the birds. We enjoyed a lovely evening stargazing around the fire pit. We really enjoyed our stay.
